This semi-nomadic couple of goat herders in the far north-east of Ladakh in Spanmik village at Pangong Lake near the Indo-Tibetan/Chinese border are proudly demonstrating their mobile solar cooker provided by the Ladakh Ecological Development Group (LEDeG). There is an extreme shortage of fuel in this high-altitude desert. Traditionally, most fuel comes from the roots of isolated shrubby plants and dried animal dung. This 'new' (and extremely efficient) way of cooking opens up a clean, sustainable and inexhaustible source of energy for people in this region.
